EXPATria
EXPATria is the second book in the trilogy. In it, Michael explores many of the reasons that more than eight million Americans have left the USA to live elsewhere in the world and why he believes millions more Americans will be leaving soon.

He explores issues such as the much lower cost of living, personal financial benefits, slower pace of life, less stress, focus on family and friends, much lower medical and prescription costs, fresher and healthier food, more relaxed atmosphere, business opportunities, investment, learning, and community service opportunities, nature exploration, and spectacular environmental oases.

While he discusses his opinion as to where he would and (perhaps more importantly) where he would NOT consider living as an EXPAT and why, his intention is not to be the end-all of “where to live”, but rather “how to live.”
Most important after personal safety considerations are, of course, health and well-being. He discusses the major differences between the U.S. medical system and practices and many socialized medical plans available in other countries and how they differ in procedures and philosophy from the U.S. medical system, which is pretty unique (and also needlessly the most expensive) in the world.

He also examines the difference between being a courteous guest in one’s new home and as opposed to showing up as “The Ugly American.” He honors the fact that most people, in most other countries, don’t want to live like Americans, a fact many EXPATs resist and find hard to believe, but at their peril for fitting in there and finally finding their bliss.
